Fall – Drawing Foundations
The foundation-laying term. Core drawing concepts and techniques are introduced here — observational skills, structure, and
values — and these carry forward into everything that follows.
- 10 classes Wednesdays 10:00 – 1:00
- September 9 – November 12, 2026
- $900 for full term
- All supplies included

Winter – Monochromatic Oil Painting
Builds directly on the fall term. Students reinforce the drawing skills already introduced while taking on the added
complexity of working in oil paint, using a monochromatic palette to keep the focus on value and form before color enters the
picture.
- 10 classes Wednesdays 10:00 – 1:00
- December 2, 2026 – February 24, 2027 (no class Dec 23rd, Dec 30th, Feb 17th for winter breaks)
- $900 for full term
- All supplies included

Spring – Limited Palette Oil Painting
Color joins the mix. Working from a limited palette, students apply everything built in the first two terms to questions of
color mixing, temperature, and harmony — the natural next step after monochrome.
- 10 classes Wednesdays 10:00 – 1:00
- March 10 – May 19, 2027 (no class Apr 7th for spring break)
- $900 for full term
- All supplies included

Instructor Bio
Riley Doyle (b. 1990) is a contemporary realist painter based in Duvall, WA. whose work is
informed by his academic figurative training, his interest in landscape and plein air practice, and
his participation and dialog with contemporary paintings and contemporary life. He works both
on location (en plein air) and in his home studio to capture moments from his environment,
imagination, and memory. Observing and painting the fleeting qualities of light is a common
theme in his work. Some of his most notable accolades include receiving the Stobart
Foundation Grant in 2017, being included in Southwest Art Magazine’s 21 Under 31 feature in
2018, being chosen as best artist under 30 several times between 2018-2020 in the Plein Air
Salon competition, receiving a Certificate of Excellence in 2020’s International Portrait
competition, and most recently receiving an Award of Distinction from the American
Impressionist Society in 2023. He was the Director of the Contemporary Landscape Atelier and
the Atelier Primer programs at Gage Academy, teaching figurative and landscape drawing and
oil painting since 2018.
