Pollinator Art: Sumi Ink & Watercolor Workshop

In partnership with the Woodinville Garden Club, Picket Fence Art Studio is proud to offer a unique, free art intensive for middle and high school students.

This workshop blends traditional techniques with natural observation. Students will learn to capture the delicate relationship between local flora and the pollinators that sustain them using fluid brushwork with Sumi ink and watercolor paint.

During this 1.5-hour session, students will:

Sumi-e Inspired Foundations: Learn how to use Sumi ink and bamboo brushes to create bold, expressive lines that define the structure of a flower and the movement of a pollinator.
Watercolor Layering: Practice “loading” brushes with color to create soft, bleeding gradients and delicate petal textures.
The “Less is More” Philosophy: Explore how to use negative space and simple compositions to create a sophisticated, professional-looking piece of art.
