Under the guidance of Brenno, you will begin your journey with the timeless tradition of still life. This foundational subject provides a rich and accessible way to master essential skills in composition, color mixing, and brushwork. As the class progresses, the curriculum will evolve to explore other exciting formats, such as master studies and advanced compositional work, tailored to the developing interests of the group.
Whether you are new to oils or looking to refine your technique, this class offers a supportive and inspiring environment to grow your artistic voice.

About the Instructor:
Brenno Kenji is a passionate artist and dedicated educator with a unique background that bridges the worlds of visual art, literature, and philosophy. Holding a Ph.D. in Literature from UC Berkeley, Brenno brings a rich, interdisciplinary approach to his teaching, encouraging students to explore painting as a form of intellectual and intuitive discovery.
His artistic training includes mentorships with renowned artists such as Sunny Apinchapong-Yang and Steve Huston. He has extensive teaching experience, having taught drawing, painting, and art theory at institutions including the University of Southern California, Loyola Marymount University, and Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. Brenno’s teaching philosophy emphasizes a dynamic balance between analytical understanding and creative intuition, creating a supportive environment where students can develop their technical skills and personal artistic voice.
