This course is designed for dedicated young artists aged 8-13 with prior artistic experience or a demonstrated passion for the visual arts. The Advanced Youth Art Class at Picket Fence Art Studio provides a curriculum that refines technical skills, deepens conceptual understanding, and encourages critical thinking essential for developing a distinctive artistic voice.
Focus: To further enhance students’ technical abilities in drawing, painting, and 3D work through focused observation, understanding of light/shadow, and sophisticated material handling, emphasizing core fine art principles.

- Spring Break (Northshore School District): No classes on Monday, April 6, 2026. Classes resume Monday, April 13, 2026.
Each week features an exciting, hands-on project designed to inspire creativity, encourage experimentation, and build fundamental skills in a supportive, step-by-step manner.
Building on existing skills, students will deepen their understanding of value, color, form, and expression through a rich sequence of observational and exploratory projects. The session begins with focused value studies and investigations of light and structure, then moves into working with fabric, still life, and advanced color mixing to strengthen accuracy and confidence.
As the term progresses, students will expand into figurative and portrait studies from reference, explore form through clay work, and learn how to abstract what they see while maintaining strong underlying structure. The final projects encourage freedom and personal voice, incorporating expressive brushwork, palette knife techniques, and three-dimensional found-object assemblage to push ideas beyond the surface and into fully realized, creative statements.
