Beginner Youth Art – Foundations in Mark-Making & Color – Fall Session- Sept 15 – Nov 17

Is your child just beginning their artistic journey, or do they love to create and want to explore a wide variety of art materials and techniques? Our Beginner Youth Art Class is the perfect starting point!

Fall Session Focus: Core Elements of Art – Line, Shape, Color, Basic Form.

Learning Outcomes: Students will develop proficiency in creating varied line qualities, distinguishing geometric and organic shapes, understanding primary and secondary color mixing, and exploring warm/cool color palettes. Early engagement with 2D and 3D conceptualization is emphasized through drawing, watercolor, and paper sculpture.

Key Projects: “Shape Creatures” for form exploration, foundational color theory experiments, and introductory monoprinting techniques.

  • Ages: 8-12
  • Class Time: Mondays, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM (Beginner)
  • Term Length: 10 weeks per term Sept 15 – Nov 17th
  • $450/term
  • A limited number of single class drop-in spots are available. $50 per drop-in class (all supplies included) Must pre-register to reserve a spot.

Each week features an exciting, hands-on project designed to inspire creativity, encourage experimentation, and build fundamental skills in a supportive, step-by-step manner.

  • Week 1: Drawing Basics – Lines & Shapes
  • Week 2: Color Exploration – Primary, Secondary & Warm/Cool Colors
  • Week 3: Painting with Watercolors – Wet-on-Wet & Layering
  • Week 4: Paper Sculpture & Form Students create a 3D relief sculpture.
  • Week 5: Expressive Self-Portraits
  • Week 6 and 7: Clay Play – Pinch Pots & Simple Sculptures
  • Week 8: Printmaking – Monoprinting & Stamp Making
  • Week 9: Mixed Media Collage – Texture & Space
  • Week 10: These weeks are for students who may have missed a previous session to catch up on a project, and for all students to engage in free exploration with materials or work further on a current project under instructor guidance.
